Digital Communication Leadership Practices of CEOs in the World and Türkiye: A Comparative Analysis

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technologies has transformed not only industries but also the roles and practices of top executives. Building on this transformation, this study presents a comprehensive analysis of global trends in digital communication leadership from the perspective of CEOs. Drawing on academic publications, industry reports, and statistical data, the digital communication strategies of CEOs in Türkiye are comparatively evaluated within a global context. The article examines CEOs’ use of social media and other digital platforms, their efforts to foster transparency and build trust, their modes of engagement with stakeholders, and their digital approaches to crisis communication.

The findings indicate that senior executives worldwide are increasingly adopting digital platforms, with professional networks -particularly LinkedIn- emerging as the most widely used medium among CEOs. Transparency and authenticity in digital communication stand out as critical factors that enhance stakeholder trust both globally and in Türkiye. However, the digital presence and engagement levels of CEOs in Türkiye display certain differences due to cultural and organizational dynamics.

In light of these findings, the study emphasizes the importance of the strategic use of social media by CEOs for effective leadership communication in the digital age. It also discusses the value of transparent, consistent, and engagement-oriented communication approaches in strengthening corporate reputation and managing crises. Overall, examples from Türkiye and across the world suggest that while successful digital communication leadership practices share several common characteristics, local contextual factors should not be overlooked.
