Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of psychoeducational interventions in individuals diagnosed with panic disorder (PD). Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder that significantly impairs quality of life, characterized by symptoms such as intense fear, palpitations, shortness of breath, and a sense of loss of control. In this research, a structured psychoeducation program incorporating a brief therapy technique was administered to 29 participants (17 female, 12 male). Pre- and post-intervention data were collected using the Panic Attack Severity Scale, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software. Paired samples t-tests and repeated measures ANOVA were conducted, and the findings revealed that the psychoeducational intervention significantly reduced symptoms of panic attacks, anxiety, and depression (p<0.05). The intervention was observed to be effective in enhancing cognitive awareness, restructuring traumatic memory, and improving the recognition of physiological symptoms. In addition, the program addressed hyperventilation management and coping skills for agoraphobic fears, resulting in positive outcomes. These findings suggest that psychoeducation may serve as a significant and effective complementary therapeutic method in the treatment of panic disorder.
