Abstract

With the Social Studies course, it is aimed to gain many values to the students. The ultimate aim of the Social Studies course is to raise citizens. For this reason, it can be said that the value of patriotism has an important place in the Social Studies course. Curriculum plays an important role in the effective acquisition of values education. In this research, it has been tried to deal with the extent to which the value of patriotism is included in the Social Studies Curriculum implemented from 1968 to the present. Within the scope of the research, 1968 Primary Education Social Studies Curriculum, 1970-71 Secondary School Social Studies Curriculum, 1985 Secondary School National History, National Geography and Citizenship Curriculum, 1998 Primary Education Social Studies Curriculum, 2005 Social Studies Curriculum and 2018 Social Studies Curriculum were discussed. The descriptive research method, which is among the qualitative designs, was used in the research. In the light of the findings of the research, it has been concluded that the value of patriotism is included in all Social Studies curriculum, but its importance is not emphasized enough in most of the curriculum. In the curricula discussed, the value of patriotism is mainly associated with historical subjects and with recognizing, loving, protecting and working for the homeland.
