The search for new methods in foreign language teaching has continued throughout history. In this context, new methods and techniques have been developed and used throughout history in order to make foreign language teaching more effective. In this context, foreign language education is also provided through literary genres. Literary genres such as poetry, story, novel and drama have an important place in language teaching as they have a rich language resource for language teaching. The use of literary genres that reflect the culture of the relevant language in foreign language teaching makes the language alive and effective. Because language teaching through literary genres will contribute to the development of listening, reading, speaking and writing skills, which are the four basic skills aimed at teaching foreign languages. In this study, the place of poetry in foreign language teaching, and how it will contribute to students' language skills development will be discussed.
