Abstract

The aim of this research is to reveal the methods - techniques used by the history teachers and to determine their views on the methods - techniques they use. In this context, a qualitative approach was adopted in the research and interview method was used to reveal the views of teachers. The population of this study consists of high school history teachers working in Erzurum city center. In the study, a sample based on maximum diversity was created. In the research, semi-structured interview form was used as data collection tool. The data obtained as a result of the research was transcribed and content analysis method was used to analyze the data. According to the findings of the research; It was determined that the teachers thought that the history course was taught for traditional purposes and found the courses related to the teaching methods and techniques they took in undergraduate education and pedagogical formation certificate program insufficient. In addition, it has been found that history teachers mostly use traditional teaching methods and techniques, while contemporary teaching methods and techniques are relatively included. It was understood that the problems faced by the teachers when applying the methods and techniques were not interest and desire of the students, the intensity of the curriculum and time shortage.As a result of the research, it was understood that history teachers did not follow the studies and developments related to teaching methods and techniques adequately.
