Abstract

The museum is the place where the reflexes of history and collective memory of humanity are recorded. It’s an instrument created through social and human experiences of mankind, from past to present. A museum is a space both public and private in which to collect and display special objects, in both an educational and an aesthetic manner. The museum process, which started in the earliest ages, has begun to gain meaning with the consciousness of accumulation through the various periods of civilizations. Objects of nature as well as arts and crafts which were considered valuable were collected and exhibited in sacred places, in palaces and on graves. In the premodern era, only aristocrats and members of the nobility had access to museums. But the museum has been made open to the public in modern times. Therefore, through examples of museums, this study will examine the historical development of the ''museum'' phenomenon and the multi-layered transformation of modern museums. It will be research that contributes to existing museum studies.
